Experienced, reliable groom/rider required for a small private competition yard in Yarwell, North Northamptonshire. We care for five horses on a well-equipped private yard with a 60m × 20m arena, horse walker and excellent turnout. Our horses include four warmbloods (two mares currently in foal, one dressage horse, one event horse, one experienced TREC horse and our granddaughter's pony. This is not a livery yard, allowing us to focus entirely on the welfare, fitness and competition preparation of our own horses. We are looking for someone to take primary responsibility for the day-to-day care of the horses. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working independently while also being part of a supportive team. You will work closely with the owners and our other full-time team member, Jo, whose primary role is as a veterinary assistant and PA in our on-site small animal veterinary surgery. Jo also provides experienced support with the horses during busy periods, holidays and competitions, so although this is the primary groom role, you will not be working in isolation. Main responsibilities • Daily care of all horses to a high standard. • Mucking out, turnout, feeding, bedding and yard management. • Exercising horses (mainly hacking and fitness work). • Clipping, trimming and routine horse care. • Preparing horses for competitions and assisting at events. • Poo-picking, paddock management and general yard maintenance. • Routine care of our friendly dogs and alpacas. • Occasional house and pet sitting when the owners are away. • Monitoring horse health and reporting any concerns promptly. • Maintaining a tidy and organised yard. As we are a small private yard, everyone works together. We are looking for someone who is equally happy carrying out routine yard duties as they are riding and preparing horses for competition. We value people who are observant, reliable, take initiative and care about good horse welfare.
