Due to a change in circumstances I'm currently looking for a part time riding role, 4 mornings a week, but can be flexible. I have over 16 years experience within the industry and have produced horses from youngstock up to intermediate. I'm happy to work with all sorts, from happy hackers to fit competition horses. Quiet but firm rider, who can deal with quirks if necessary. Ideally within 30 mins of Newark but happy to travel up to an hour for the right place.
From Showjumping, to showing/eventing and foals through to stallions I have experience in all aspects of the equestrian world. I am looking for my next long term journey where I can spend my days working with the animals I love, and carry out my exceptionally high standards for the right person.
I grew up with horses from a young age. My parents had everything from quarter horses, thoroughbreds, draftcrosses to mules which allowed me to gain experience working with many different mannered horses. As I got older, I started leaning away from western riding towards English, hunters and show jumping. I have been riding with Brenda Clemens of Beaver Creek Ranch for almost 10 years, who has helped bring up my younger horses through the classes and helped me work through bad habits with my older horses. In the spring 2019, I spent a few weeks with Thunderbird Show Stables getting to handle beautiful imports and learning the fast pace of a busy show barn. The summer of 2019, I got to groom for professional, Texan polo players Corinne and Bryan Middleton who taught me the efficiency needed for the game of polo.
I enjoy working with all ages of horses, especially young ones as they learn so quickly. I really enjoy jumping as there is no better feeling than the power a horse can create and the freedom a horse lends you over a fence. I also love to compete as it gives me a chance to show off the hard work my equine partner and I have done to get there. Keeping a tidy stable and clean tack is one of my top priorities in the barn as well these tasks provide instant gratification on long days.
I have ridden many different horses but mostly younger, green horse teaching them on the flat and over fences. I have gotten the pleasure of working and learning from Gary Hunt, an expert colt starter in western Canada, who has started all makes of horses but more specifically racing thoroughbreds. Gary has a five day program that values horsemanship, trust and safety of horse and handler, that gives any horse a solid foundation to build in any direction.
I have been competing in the small Saskatchewan shows for many years, even bring home a few provincial plaques in the hunter and jumper ring on my own horses that I have started. I have also competed in Brandon, Manitoba at the Winter Fair.
