Oxford Brookes University BSc (Hons) Animal Behaviour and Welfare First Class Honours Royal Society of Biology's Top Student Award 2023 (Solihull College and University Centre)
Moreton Morrell Level 3 Horse Management - Subsidiary Diploma Distinction*
I have owned my mare for 6 years, participating in non-competitive events and fun rides. Prior to this, I loaned an older mare and a youngster who I helped break.
Previous employment includes a livery yard and a racing stud yard both for over 3 years. Working alongside the manager and regularly given the duty of sole charge, I was responsible for the care and exercise of 20+ horses; handling a variety of horses broadened my general equine knowledge. I gained excellent communication, team building and organisation skills from having to manage multi-level relationships.
Before employment I volunteered at a riding school for 8 months, helping to care for 40+ horses, carrying out general yard duties and assisting with riding lessons.
Attending college also allowed me to gain valuable knowledge and experience in horse management.
A hard working and friendly individual who has a passion for improving animal health and welfare e. Highly self-motivated and enthusiastic with a comprehensive knowledge of a variety of animals gained through previous employment and achieving a Level 3 Diploma in Horse Management and a BSc degree in Animal Behaviour and Welfare.
I hold a full clean driving licence.
Through education, volunteering and employment I have been fortunate to ride a variety of horses, both flatwork (walk, trot, canter) and jumping single fences up to 90cm and small courses up to 70cm.
I have experience riding both English and Western, although I have only ridden English for the past 6 years.
I have previously participated in several unaffiliated competitions with my own horse (clear round and showing).
'Competition Horses' was a module within the Horse Management diploma, of which I achieved a Distinction. This enabled me to learn valuable skills regarding preparing a horse for competition. Since completing this course I have been able to utilise the skills that I learnt in real life situations.
