Horses have always been a huge factor in my life but when I finished college at 18, I was offered the opportunity to complete an advanced Level 3 Apprenticeship in Horse Care, Breeding & Management at Catherston Stud where I am now a permanent member of staff. I have invaluable experience working with stallions standing at stud, brood mares, foals, youngsters, and competition-fit horses involved in many disciplines. I have a lot of responsibility with the stud side, helping to tease, cover, inseminate mares, handling the stallions while teasing the mare and holding the tease mare. I am very involved with foal watches, foaling down and aftercare, handling young stock, and have been left in sole charge of vet visits, farrier visits, and physio visits. I have excellent groundwork skills in handling and lunging and I am also a capable rider able to school horses to a basic level and hack out with confidence. I have been involved in backing and breaking young horses from the ground.
I have recently became a qualified Artificial Insemination Technician after completing the course at Twemlows Stud. I would love to be able to put my new skills to use.
Basic schooling up to the equivalent of the bhs stage 2 exam as I passed this around 4 years ago. I am confident riding many different horses out hacking and within the school. Also I am very confident on the ground for tasks such as lunging and general handling.
