I gained my Level 3, Extended Diploma in Horse Management from Moulton College, and received a DDD* . While at college, I gained my BHS Silver Care and Bronze Ride awards. I am currently in my 3rd year of university, studying a BSc Equine Science degree at University Centre Sparsholt, in Hampshire.
BHS Stage 1
My main duties within my job is both sole and team responsibility of general husbandry of the school horses and private liveries. Alongside this, I prepare the school horses for ridden work or ground work
Alongside completing my GCSE's, I volunteered at a riding school for just under a year and a half and took riding lessons. While at school, I completed a 2 week work placement at an eventing centre and livery yard. I attended Moulton College, gaining a DDD* in my Level 3, Extended Diploma in Horse Management. During the diploma, I gained my BHS Silver Care and Bronze Ride awards and completed 120 hours of compulsory commercial experience, where I assisted in the husbandry of the college horses during the week and stewarded commercial equine events at the weekends. I also completed 150 hours of work experience at a tack shop, where I developed customer service and point of sales skills and eventually got employed at this shop. After completion of my diploma, I began volunteering at the riding school again and eventually got employed as a casual freelance groom and have been working there alongside my BSc Equine Science degree.
I am quick at mucking out a variety of different bed types, can keep a yard tidy and can turn out to a high standard. I have experience working at commercial businesses including at riding schools, livery yards and equine shops. I have been solely responsible for the care of horse, managing staff and managing the yard to a good standard. I have also assisted friends by exercising horses from the ground and occasionally riding their horses.
I have ridden a variety of different horses ranging from riding school horses to ex 3 star horses. The majority of the horses that I have ridden have been in an educational setting at college and university. However, I have also ridden various friends horses but also have ridden and worked horses on the ground during employment at a riding school. I have mainly worked horses over the flat, although I am confident jumping up to 60cm.
I have never competed myself. However, I have groomed and turned out horses to a high standard and can plait up using thread. At college, I assisted in stewarding commercial equine events and completed an Events Management module at college. For this module, my fellow students and I planned, organized and ran an equine event for the equine department.
