I am confident around horses and have been developing essential skills through volunteering at a livery yard and with a rescue. Ideally, I would be looking for a role in the Basingstoke area while I'm learning to drive, but happy to consider a live-in position in the wider Hampshire region or further afield.

Horses have always been a large part of my life with riding from a young age and having my own ponies. However, my real experience in the equine world came as a teenager when I bought a green 4 year old. Bringing on a youngster myself allowed me to find my real passion within horses and taught me the rewards that come with hard work and dedication. I have great experience both in and out of the saddle and how to handle unexpected situations that occur often with horses. As well as being responsible for my own horse, I gained experience at a livery yard, being responsible for exercising, turnout and overall care of clients horses. Over the last few years while being at University I have gained experience in the racing industry with a part time role exercising racehorses alongside general yard duties. Since graduating I have taken on a full-time role as a groom/au pair on a racing yard. My current role sees me responsible for looking after kids and ponies and riding out the racehorses.
Being a keen sports person I find that I enjoy an active role. I understand the physical demand of being both in and out of the saddle and your horse can only be expected to be as physically fit as you are yourself. I am efficient in mucking out to a high standard in an reasonable time period to keep on track with other duties. I have a close eye for detail in turning out and noticing any changes in horses physical appearance and behaviour. Above all I have a willingness to continue to learn.
My experience with young horses came with buying a 4 year old horse, and I soon learned that patience was key to bringing a young horse on.
I have experience riding quirky horses as well as dealing with my own horse becoming nappy, having to learn to over come this issue myself with patience and perseverance to be able to hack out alone again.
My experience in racing has allowed my to become confident riding high strung racehorses in their daily work through open spaces and on gallops.
Over the years I have competed in a range of disciplines including dressage, show jumping and xc. Having been a member of The Pony Club this allowed me to compete on a regular basis. I competed in a number of Pony Club team events as well as competing at the NSEA Championships in show jumping and dressage. However, over time I found I excelled in the flat work sphere and therefore focused more on my dressage and showing and competed regularly at Novice level in dressage.
