I am a natural leader, communicator, and team player. I am empathetic, other’s centered, and driven towards a growth mindset. I have three adult children and three young grandchildren. Once my children were grown, I returned to school to obtain my Master of Education degree. I received an “Academic Achievers Scholarship” to the University of Sydney and accepted this wonderful opportunity to travel and learn overseas. While at the University of Sydney, I studied research in education and specialized in Equine Assisted Therapy & Learning. I desired to learn how this new application might re-engage at-risk youth in learning. I was very impressed with what I discovered and when I returned to the U.S., I pursued work and certification in Equine Assisted Learning (EAL). I have been working in EAL since 2015. I have seen first-hand how horses can help humans learn and heal. I believe work with horses should be mutually beneficial. I LOVE horses. They teach me always.
I am a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATHIntl.org) trained Therapeutic Riding Instructor as well as a PATH certified Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning.
I am proficient in Parelli Natural Horsemanship to Level 4. I am an Educator first and have been teaching in many different capacities since 1989. I currently work in Loveland, CO teaching middle school science in the Thompson School District. I miss being outside with the horses, teaching kids there.
I ride both western and english and focus on lightness, feel and connection. I bring my understanding of natural horsemanship and the nature of the horse into riding. I work to capture the mind and heart of the horse in order to work with a "willing partner". Horses are wonderfully intelligent and kind animals. I do not desire to dominate them or lead out of fear. I form friendships in which I am a natural leader. Horses understand that.
Finances have always limited my ability to compete in the horse world. But the bright side of that is that I have never seen horses as a "vehicle" on which I perform. They are much more like my "friends" that I learn from. I am grateful for their kind companionship. They are not a status symbol for me, or a way for me to demonstrate my dominance in any arena.
