Due to a change in circumstances I'm currently looking for a part time riding role, 4 mornings a week, but can be flexible. I have over 16 years experience within the industry and have produced horses from youngstock up to intermediate. I'm happy to work with all sorts, from happy hackers to fit competition horses. Quiet but firm rider, who can deal with quirks if necessary. Ideally within 30 mins of Newark but happy to travel up to an hour for the right place.
From Showjumping, to showing/eventing and foals through to stallions I have experience in all aspects of the equestrian world. I am looking for my next long term journey where I can spend my days working with the animals I love, and carry out my exceptionally high standards for the right person.
Although I haven't participated in any formal equine courses, I have plenty of experience working with horses in different environments and industries. I've learned a lot over the years working at different facilities that I can confidently use in any barn. I try to learn as much as I can every day and love being taught new things.
grooming, providing water and feed, doing chores, tacking up, individual horse care
I started with horses at a young age, taking little lessons but when I was about 10 years old I stopped riding and started just volunteering at a local barn. The barn was small and the horses were not the best athletes, but that didn’t matter to me. I did the barn chores and basically worshipped the horses from a young age. One day, the manager asked if I wanted to take lessons and I said yes. There I learned a strong foundation for riding, but like I said the horses weren’t very muscled and I wanted to do more with my riding so I moved to a hunter/ jumper barn. I never thought of competing before, but IEA came up quick and I said, why not! Showing has a grip on me and I want to help other people find the joy in it I do. I’ve also learned some dressage and dabbled in western along the way! Going to different barns and getting the experience I have has been crucial to my equine career, and I love learning about all the different disciplines there are and how they work independently.
A horse’s turnout is the most important thing to me, and I put a lot of work into grooming, from currying until my arms hurt to scrubbing the sweat off a horse's face. I make sure to get every spot clean, and I actually enjoy it! When it comes to the horse, I provide for all its needs. I'm a detailed person who likes to follow a routine and keep things tidy and organized. I pay attention to detail and do everything to my best ability. I'm eager to learn and can take up a new skill quickly.
I've ridden drastically different horses in my life--young horses, old horses, backward horses, forward horses, spooking horses, bucking horses, dressage horses, western horses, hunter/jumper horses, catch rides--you name it, I've probably ridden it. I take the horse I'm given and learn it to become the most well-rounded horsewoman I can be. It's easy for me to get along with most horses no matter their discipline or personality. Loving horses is loving every horse you have the chance to sit on.
I’m now competing in IEA and do schooling shows during the show season. One of my goals for the future is to be able to compete regularly and travel around America! I’ve been a groom for my barn, but I’m now looking for a more one-on-one experience with an employer I can work for individually. I learn new things fast, so I can adjust to any schedule. I'm very flexible depending on how a barn works compared to others, so show me how you do things and I'll do the same!
